| Item | Content |
|---|---|
| Period | Facebook 2004, Twitter 2006, domestic mini-homepages and SNS |
| Technology | SNS (friending, short posts, sharing, feeds) |
| Literacy | Short-form writing, building relationships, digital footprints, sharing scope |
Transition Point
From long-form writing like blogs on laptops to communication where short status updates, photos, and shares build relationships. This is the period when “letting people know who I am” grew enormously as a purpose of writing.
Literacy Improvement Mechanisms
- Summary writing: Conveying the present moment or an opinion in one or two sentences
- Sensitivity to sharing scope: Who can see this post?
- Digital footprints: The recognition that a post, once published, stays for a long time
- Feed reading: Skimming many short posts while distinguishing fact from feeling
Field Operation Tips
- A “describe the experience in one sentence” challenge + a sharing-scope role-play
- Bad-case discussion: rewriting short posts that caused misunderstandings
- Output: one introductory blurb for the village or experience (paired with a long-form blog draft)
Implications for Paju Activist Training
- The capacity to write short announcement copy for parents and the local community
- Extends into a digital citizenship topic in youth programs
- In the late 2000s, feeds on PC screens were central → contrast with later mobile notifications and always-on access
Notes
- The prototype of short-form writing was established in 2000s SNS and became constant with 2010s mobile
